The excursion through Grampians National Park, known as “Gariwerd” by the area’s Indigenous inhabitants, features a chain of steep mountain ranges to the west of Melbourne. This region abounds in natural splendour and is a habitat for numerous kangaroos, wallabies, and other indigenous creatures. Highlights include the breathtaking Silver Band Falls and extensive mountain scenery.

The journey encompasses brief strolls to different locations and a visit to the Brambuk Cultural Centre for insights into the local history and wildlife.

Morning tea is in Victoria

Departing the urban sprawl, our route extends 250 km westward, traversing landscapes rich in the heritage of the Victorian Gold Rush era. This excursion culminates in a pause at one of the charming towns along the way, where you’ll delve into the region’s mining legacy and savour a morning beverage.

Brambuk Aboriginal Cultural Centre

Upon reaching the scenic Grampians National Park, our journey continues to the Brambuk Aboriginal Cultural Centre. You’re invited to immerse yourself in the foundational myths integral to this varied terrain here. Roaming the cultural centre, you might catch glimpses of wallabies, emus, or perhaps echidnas in their natural habitat. This visit enriches your understanding of Gariwerd’s importance to the Indigenous community.

Reeds Lookout and The Balconies

Reeds Lookout offers panoramic views of Lake Wartook, the Victoria Valley, and Mount Difficult Range. Afterwards, we stroll along a shaded trail among gum trees and interesting rock formations to reach The Balconies. Here, you can witness the well-known ‘Jaws of Death’ with breathtaking views and scenery showcased in the Japanese Animation’ Princess Mononoke’.

Hiking to the base of Mackenzie Falls

The waterfall in Victoria Valley is widely recognized. It can be experienced by hiking to the base and back, admiring the abundant water and feeling the refreshing mist in the air.

The hike consists of approximately 250 steps to the base and back. Alternatively, if you prefer a more relaxed walk over the top of the falls, that is also an option.

If Mackenzie Falls is closed, visitors will be redirected to a tranquil hike leading to Silverband Falls.

Boroka Lookout

Visiting Boroka’s lookout provides a panoramic view of the beautiful landscape. Depending on the weather and visibility, there is also the option to visit Lake Bellfield and walk along the damn, with the two mountain ranges creating an awe-inspiring backdrop.

Kangaroo and Wildlife Spotting

In Halls Gap, residents don’t have to own a lawn mower because kangaroos can be seen feeding on the grass in the evening. Visiting the Grampians, you will probably encounter various Australian bird species, such as kookaburras and emus. However, we assure you that you will not depart from the area without catching sight of a kangaroo. Occasionally, we have the opportunity to see echidnas and wallabies. Please refrain from feeding wild animals, but ensure your camera battery is charged.

Return to Melbourne

At some point, we will need to return to the city. The journey from the Grampians takes about 3 hours, and there is a stop along the way to buy dinner (you will need to pay for it yourself). After a day of exploring, take time to unwind and reflect on your experiences. You will arrive in Melbourne around 8:30 pm and can be dropped off at your original pickup location or public transport links.

NOTE: Child rates apply from 6 years to 12 years old. It is unsuitable for children under six years old due to the nature of the tour and safety reasons.
