Itinerary
Phillip Island's Koala Reserve
The drive from Melbourne to Phillip Island takes approximately 1 hour and 45 minutes. Upon arrival, a Phillip Island Nature Parks Ranger will greet you for a guided walk through the Koala Reserve. During the walk, you will receive a presentation about Koalas, the history of the Reserve, and the importance of the last remaining natural woodland on the island.
Explore the history and Aboriginal culture of Phillip Island
The Yalloc Bulluck, a large clan of the Bunurong people, favoured Phillip Island for hunting, fishing, and foraging. They would visit the island during Summer and the ‘egging season’.
The area’s abundant wildlife explains its popularity. Evidence of the Yalloc Bulluk’s foraging remains in a midden at the Penguin Parade and Summerlands National Park. Phillip Island Nature Parks is actively working to educate visitors and protect these culturally significant areas.
Nobbies Rocks is in Phillip Island Nature Park
When you arrive at Summerlands, you will notice no houses. This area is part of the National Park. Penguins who haven’t gone fishing for the day hide in small wooden burrows. We will walk along the boardwalks at ‘The Nobbies’ to see if we can spot any Little Penguins in their burrows. The boardwalks also lead to ‘The Blowhole’, where waves crash onto the dark volcanic rock. The caves and formations on this peninsula create dramatic photo opportunities.
You might even see Australian Fur Seals on Seal Rocks if it’s sunny. If you don’t want to walk on the boardwalks, you can enter the Nobbies Information Centre. You can shop at the gift shop, get a hot drink, or experience the ‘Antarctic Journey’. The Antarctic Journey costs an additional $18 per person and provides insight into marine animals in the Southern Hemisphere. By visiting this WWK attraction, your entrance fee will contribute to protecting and preserving these majestic creatures in the Southern Ocean.
Off-Road Wildlife Coastal Drive
The Penguin Parade at Phillip Island is a must-do for tourists
The Penguin Parade happens after sunset when the Little Penguins come out of the water. Photography is not allowed to protect the penguins. Supports this request and believes enjoying the experience without distractions is better. Consider combining the Penguin Parade with a trip to the Great Ocean Road on our 2 Day Tour. Avoid the hassle of planning and driving and enjoy the journey.
